Released in 2014, the Pokémon TCG XY expansion Phantom Gate featured the first appearance of "M Gengar EX," the Mega Evolution form of Gengar, in an expansion set. Up until the release of Phantom Gate, Mega Evolution Pokémon were included as UR cards rather than as SR full-art cards. Notably, their card designs were identical to those of the RR cards.
